A trial run before the big trip

We decided to make weekend trip in our RV before we head across the country. You know, to work out any bugs. Sarah found the KOA in Madeira Beach online so I made the reservation on Thursday, we hooked up Friday after school & work, and headed out.

By far, the shortest route to Madeira Beach from our house is across the mouth of Tampa Bay via the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. I was a little nervous about driving our rig (57 feet long total with the Camry in tow) across the big bridge. But it wasn't until I was at the pinnacle of the arch that the full intensity of it really hit me. Whoa!!

Below is our rig setup at the KOA. It was a really nice campground located on the Inter coastal waterway of Madeira Beach, FL. They had a nice pool, a huge hot tub that was always 102 Deg. F. The only thing that hasn't worked on the motor home since we bought it, is the hydraulic leveling jack system. I worked on it for a few hours while at the KOA and learned a little more about the system but still do not have it working... yet.

Only 30 more days till our journey begins!

The family is very excited and ready to pull anchor to head West. Lord willing, one month from today we will load the family up in our 34' Class A motor-home and head towards our first stop, Mammoth Caves, Kentucky. Our trip is scheduled to last 24 days total and consists of 11 key destinations plus a few pit stops along the way. We've estimated our trip to be; 7,539 miles of highway, 1077 gallons of gasoline, and 130 hours behind the wheel. Why in the world would I want to put myself and my family through such an endeavor? Why not? No seriously, my daughter Sarah will be a Senior at Lennard High School next year, and my son Joshua is twelve. I just feel like this may be my last shot at that one big family vacation that nobody ever forgets. Ever...
